Azerbaijan Tourism Board

Azerbaijan Tourism Board is welcoming to be partners on our TOUR EXPO Virtual Tourism Fair!

The Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) is a national promotion body established under the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Its main objectives are to support the growth of Azerbaijan’s tourism industry and encourage visitors to explore the country’s rich cultural offering and experience its ancient heritage. Azerbaijan is a land of many extraordinary revelations. An Eastern country with a Western outlook, it’s been a cultural crossroads for millennia. With its abundance of attractions, spectacular nature and culture of hospitality, Azerbaijan has a lot to offer curious travelers seeking to discover a vibrant new country. From museums and nightlife to national parks and mud volcanoes, there are countless paths leading to intrigue and adventure.

ATB´s tourism development strategy for 2023 is based on 9 pillars which cover all aspects of tourism from state policy to the marketing and commercial side. The annual strategy documents focus on outlining macro projects alongside the strategic pillars. The yearbooks give a detailed insight into all the key achievements that were accomplished under the projects at the end of the respective year.

Leading, coordinating, promoting, and managing the sustainable development of Azerbaijan’s regional tourism destinations.

In 2019, STA and ATB commenced the rollout of a new structure for the development, promotion and management of tourism in the regions of Azerbaijan. The structure is based on the establishment of Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) across Azerbaijan.

The purpose of the DMOs is to lead, coordinate, promote, and manage the sustainable development of Azerbaijan’s regional tourism destinations.

Representing the key regional tourism areas of Azerbaijan, the DMOs combine multiple regions and operate as a direct link between the national-level tourism organisations and the public sector, private sector and community at the regional and local levels.

The activities of the DMOs are arranged according to three key pillars:

  • Tourism marketing & communications.  Carry out tourism-oriented marketing activities including digital and print promotions, advertising and PR and participation in festivals and events.
  • Tourism business & product development.  Work with public sector partners to facilitate and support private sector and community investment in the development of tourism resources into quality products and services.
  • Tourism human resource development & standards.  Generate awareness about tourism, support strengthening of community, business and public sector capacities in tourism, and encourage continuous improvement in quality standards in the tourism industry.

In the future the number of regions will be dynamically expanded to ensure that all key regional tourism hot spots of Azerbaijan are represented by a DMO.

The outcomes of DMO activities are expected to include increased local jobs in tourism and income, increased investment in tourism related facilities and services, and the strengthening and protection of local culture and traditions.

  • To organize everything right from travel documentation to arranging hotels and commutation in the destination country and hence to take away.

Competitive Comparison: The travel agency market is competitive, and technology, namely the Internet and Computerized Reservation Systems (CRS), has changed the way travel agencies operate. The Internet gives agencies and individuals the ability to perform travel related research. Discount air fare brokers have taken advantage of the Internet by offering tickets on line at discounted rates. This has increased price competition. Computerized Reservation Systems have increased the speed and efficiency of the agency to customer transaction. They have also increased the start-up costs for travel agencies who wish to be competitive. Moreover, industry competition and the increased number of travel options available have made it necessary for smaller travel agencies to establish themselves as specialists in one or more types of travel. Travel Lounge has done this by positioning itself as an adventure travel specialist. Travel Lounge has not identified a direct competitor in the greater Hyderbad area. Therefore, Travel Lounge will compete with other area travel agencies as they offer alternatives to adventure travel, have the ability to arrange travel themselves, and have the advantage of established relationships with clients.

Sales Literature: Brochures for travel locations, rental car companies, entertainment, etc. are obtained from the wholesale houses and service providers with whom Travel Lounge deals. Brochures for our clients are handled by a our company and are mailed to potential customers upon request. Additional literature such as direct mail, print ads, and sales promotion materials will be utilized as needed. Travel Lounge will maintain a database from which customer/contact information will be drawn.

Service Description: Travel Lounge is a full service agency and sells standard travel agency goods and services, including airfare and travel packages. Additional services include assistance with passports, providing access to top-of-the-line equipment and supplies, and a superior offering that includes access to better than average terrain and activities, accommodations, and entertainment. The value added of Travel Lounge offering is its knowledge and expertise, competitive rates, and specialty focus on adventure travel, which translates into increased satisfaction for the customer.

Future Services: Masoom Group may in the future open agencies at additional locations. In addition, as the Travel Lounge market reaches maturity and may participate in additional segments of the travel market and is researching the market to identify potential opportunities for future sales. Masoom Group’s long-term goal is to establish itself as an internationally recognized service provider of top-of-the-line. This goal does not prohibit us from participating in additional segments. It does, however, provide a corporate focus and a differentiated offering.

We look forward to seeing you all on the fair TOUR EXPO Tourism Fair on the 9-10th of December, 2020.

The Irresistible Pull of Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island was named for the way it pulled on Captain Cook’s compass as he sailed past it, the needle twisting mysteriously.

Some people say this island has a powerful “energy” that radiates from it. While I’m not sure about that, there was certainly some force drawing us here as we travelled down Australia’s East Coast – even if it was only the magnetic pull of curiosity.

We had originally booked two nights on the island, but not long after we arrived we were extending it to four. The island’s slow pace of life made us so happy that we realised it would be a shame to leave too quickly.

Dining in the Rainforest

The first night we arrived we were hungry but didn’t feel like cooking, so we headed to Man Friday which is a BYO Mexican restaurant surrounded by lush rainforest.

As we waited for our meal on the outdoor patio and discussed the meaning of the latest episode of WestWorld, we saw pale cream-coloured geckos slinking up the walls, long legged birds skulking around, enormous bats swooping overhead and a possum shimmying up a nearby tree trunk.

It’s not often you get to enjoy so much wildlife with your evening meal.

Koalas in the Treetops

On our second day we set off late morning smelling of sunscreen and equipped with a backpack filled with sandwiches and water. We took the bus from Picnic Bay to Nelly Bay and then picked up the walking trail through the forest to Arcadia Bay, a 2-3 hour trek. I would recommend doing the hike earlier in the morning than we did, by mid afternoon the sun was hot and we were red-faced and sweating as we climbed up the steep, rocky track.

However, our efforts were rewarded. We had kept an eye out for koalas the entire way – trying to find a balance between watching our footing and scanning the treetops. We were starting to wonder if we would ever see one, when we came across a German girl who said she saw some in the trees up ahead. We marched forth with invigorated curiosity.

A few minutes later, my eyes were drawn to a furry grey bundle wedged into the crook of a branch. “Lee!” I whisper-shouted, pointing frantically. As Lee pointed his camera, the koala lifted its head and looked directly at us. With its button nose and tufted ears, it looked more like a plush toy than a real animal – too cartoonishly cute to be real.

As Lee snapped photo after photo and I gazed on mesmerised, the koala shimmied up the tree trunk gripping the bark with its tiny claws. On a branch above it met with another larger koala, perhaps its mother? We tried to get a closer look but we realised we were making them nervous, so we backed away and made the most of the zoom lens on Lee’s camera.

Along the way we would see two more koalas, curled up sleepily in the tree branches. Koalas sleep for 16 to 18 hours per day. They need the rest because the energy value of their diet is very low. Eucalyptus leaves are low in nutrition, high in fibrous matter and contain toxins so they take a very long time to digest.

Sleepy little koala...
Sleepy little koala…

(I asked myself why the koalas would eat something that is low in nutrition and made them sleepy and sluggish as they tried to digest it, but then I realise that I should be asking myself the same question the next time I eat fast food.)

Sunset Over the Ocean

Our third day was a little more work heavy – as is the life of a digital nomad. However, there was still time for an afternoon plunge in the pool and a hike up to the lookout point to watch the sunset. The lookout was incredibly easy to reach from the hotel and it only took about 25 minutes to get to the top.

Scrambling up onto the rocks was a little nerve wracking- my stomach dropped when I looked down at the drop below. We perched on the top of the sun-warmed boulders and watched as the sun sank slowly into the ocean, the sky changing from blue to lavender to purplish-grey.

Forts on the Hill

On our fourth day I was making coffee in the morning when I noticed a cockatoo sitting on the wall outside the kitchen, watching me intently. I stared at him and he stared right back. As I settled on an outdoor table to have my breakfast, he flew over to sit next to me. I was happy for the company, even though his stare was a little bit intense!

We headed out again in the early afternoon, map in hand. We jumped on the bus (what a great convenient system for getting around the island!) and got off at the beginning of the Forts Walk.

The Forts Walk, Magnetic Island
The Forts Walk, Magnetic Island

This short trail takes about 45 minutes and leads you up the hill to some ruins of WWII forts. The Australian Coast Artillery Units operated the Forts complex from 1943 until the end of the Pacific War in 1945.

There’s not much left of most of the buildings but the concrete foundations, but there is a look-out tower that you can climb. Slowly, hand over hand, I ascended the steep metal ladder and was rewarded with a breathtaking 360 degree view. It’s not often a trail offers a view this spectacular in exchange for less than an hour of gentle climbing.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at CStay Guest House in Picnic Bay. Most backpackers stay at the BASE Hostel, but we were looking for a chilled out vibe rather than a party. We found CStay just the right pace for us. It offered a fully equipped kitchen and barbeque so we cooked a few meals for ourselves. Anton, the manager, is incredibly helpful and takes the time to explain the local map of the area and share recommendations for the surrounding area.

Top 5 Things To Consider For a Secure Hotel Wi-Fi

What is worse than no hotel Wi-Fi, is a hotel Wi-Fi that is not working. If your WLAN in the hotel keeps failing or certain rooms have no reception, the reception or service team is constantly busy trying to make agitated guests feel at ease, console them and explain why the Internet is not working. This costs not only time, but ultimately also money and, in the worst case, leads to frustrated guests and unmotivated employees who do not identify with the hotel. All of this also affects the hotel’s turnover. If you are currently considering upgrading your hotel Wi-Fi or completely modernizing the hotel’s WLAN system, you need to consider the following characteristics.

The WLAN Coverage

Depending on the size of the hotel, a WLAN router is usually not sufficient to cover the entire hotel. And no guest wants to sit in the hotel lobby with 30 other hotel guests to check their e-mails because the WLAN reception in the hotel room is miserable. So, make sure that the WLAN covers your entire hotel. WLAN repeaters, Power-LAN or Access Points offer possibilities to extend the range of the WLAN in the hotel.

The WLAN Bandwidth

Without sufficient bandwidth, your hotel guests may receive the WLAN signal in their rooms, but listening to the latest podcast or watching a video on YouTube without interference is not possible. News sites, WhatsApp or Skype calls, on the other hand, require less Mbps. You should therefore adapt the bandwidth to the surfing habits of your guests. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation that you only have 6 Mbit/s available to you due to the slow-progressing broadband expansion, it is advisable to throttle the WLAN.

Legal Security

Interference liability has been abolished. This does not mean that providers are no longer liable if, for example, media protected by copyright are illegally uploaded via their open network. No authorities have declared the Internet to be a law-free area, in which everyone can do and leave what he or she wants. Only the first warning notice, which was previously subject to a fee, is now free of charge. All hotels that provide an open WLAN are still liable for the misconduct of their guests.

The Login

To make your guests feel at home in your hotel, everything should be just as simple and uncomplicated as at home. So, make the login as uncomplicated as possible. This way you kill two birds with one stone: Your hotel receptionists do not have to explain to your guests repeatedly how the login works and your guests are happy about the simple and fast internet access.

Security of the Guests and the Network

The WLAN of hotels is increasingly a target for online attacks. Hackers are not only trying to collect hotel data but also to spy on the guests’ data. The WLAN in hotels should therefore always be sufficiently protected so that your hotel guests can surf safely. Therefore, make sure to activate WPA2 encryption for your network and make sure to equip yourself with an up-to-date firewall. It’s also recommended activating client isolation so that your guests do not see each other in the network.
